Cuckoo Clock, July 20, 2012 Daily Reflection

My children and the cuckoo clock

It was handcrafted in Germany. It was purchased by a soldier. It was carried across the ocean. It was given as a gift. It hangs in her house and with every hour that tiny wooden bird ever so quickly pops out and says cuckoo.

My children will stand and wait for five minutes, motionless, with their eyes wide open for that little bird to pop out of that clock. It is rare, quick and a bit of a challenge. They love it.

What do we wait for motionless that is worth the wait? Try it. Sit without moving for the next five minutes. You will find it is longer than you think, especially for a child. We rush through life at such a fast pace. We rarely sit down and wait, on purpose. Is there anything in your life that you would sit still for five entire minutes to witness?
