Family Vacations, May 15, 2012 Daily Reflection

My kids on the beach in Fl

“If you could go anywhere in the world where would you want to go?” I asked my daughter Anna. “Hawaii! But if we could not go there then Destin, Florida!” was her reply.

As a family my husband and my four children took our first trip to Florida in seven years this past October. We had the most wonderful vacation ever. No, we didn’t go to the Happiest Place on earth, Disney World. No, we didn’t go scuba diving or parasailing. No, we didn’t do all the crazy tourist attractions on the strip. What we did do was stay together as a family for 6 full days. We played at the beach, we caught waves, we searched for seashells, and we hunted for crabs at night. We grilled out, we were lazy and relaxed. We watched the sunrise every morning over the ocean together as a family from the balcony of our rented condo. We loved the ocean but most of all we loved being together just the 6 of us.

When I ask my kids where they want to go they say Florida because we were together with nothing to distract our attention away from our family. Family vacations are priceless, precious and should be a priority. Just remember it’s not about how much you can cram into one day. It’s not about how much money you spend. It’s about how much you can be together, relaxing, playing and just being a family.
