Anna and Jake playing a duet at their first piano recital
Anna and Jake had their first piano recital last week. They have been taking lessons weekly from my Aunt Mary K. They did a wonderful job together on a duet as well as their solos. They were both nervous before starting their pieces. They were in front of at least 50 grandparents and parents. Aunt Mary K has 13 students.
I think this was a great opportunity for my children for many different reasons. First of all they are learning how to read music and play the piano. All the research shows playing a musical instrument is so good for your brain. Secondly they have a wonderful hobby that creates music for a lifetime. Thirdly they were playing in front of people they have never met before. That will make it much easier for them to be comfortable in front of a crowd in school and life in their future.
As a mom of course the only thing I was thinking during the recital was “That’s my Johnny!”- from the Music Man. I was beaming and as proud a peacock of my children!!
