“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us” February 13, 2017 Daily Reflection

In Christ we are a new creation Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[b]for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5: 17- 6:2

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” I teach my students that my definition of sin is anything that moves you away from God (test it out with any sin). Sin to is the implication of distance from God. God made him (Jesus Christ) who had no sin (distance from his father) to be (complete distance from God), so that in him (Jesus Christ) we might become the righteousness of God (have our sins forgiven and be in right relationship with God). It’s as though God said Jesus Christ must be distanced completely by me and he was abandoned not only by his friends but by God’s own power to save Jesus on that cross. He felt alone, suffering mental, and physical anguish divided from his father. In that act we saw what sin truly is, division from God the father, isolation, pain and complete suffering. In that same moment God promised no one ever had to be isolated again because Jesus Christ has taught it for us to remember and be redeemed by. We know that God will forgive our transgressions and that if we ask for forgiveness God will give his mercy and we can live with him once more. God has never wanted isolation, distance, and suffering for the human race. However, we were given the free will to choose and most of the time we choose pleasure, power, wealth, and honor. If only we could choose selfless love, then we could never be divided from our creator who is love.

Sin divides us, isolates, and leads to mental, emotional, and sometimes physical pain in our division from God. Jesus Christ sacrificed his life that we may see that division. So that we may learn to love instead of sin and when we fall short ask for the forgiveness of our merciful God who will always forgive and love us through all eternity.
