God created each of us with a soul. I believe our soul is what aches and longs for unity with God, our creator. When we feel that emptiness in life and attempt to fill it with materialism, individualism, and distractions we suffer. When instead we attempt to fill it with ways to reach God through giving of ourselves to others, being in healthy relationships, living a selfless life we become fulfilled. God is in each one of us. When we are able to get in touch with self we will discover this. It is a long road to discover self. We can do it through meditation, prayer, seeking, and being truthful about what we really long for in life. Are you on that path yet?
