I will rarely see those faces again or hear their laughter in my classroom. They always had me laughing, stomping my feet and asking what on earth they were thinking. As a teacher we are to teach the material, for me that is Theology, the study of God. I teach the beliefs of the Catholic Church, the injustices of the world and ways that the student can change the world through active social justice. I also try to lead them to a deeper faith in God. Through creative prayers, meditations and openness to their questions, doubts, and beliefs.

I want to be more than a teacher. I want to make them aware of the ways of the world and the counter cultural ways of Jesus Christ. I want them to see from a different perspective and love from a depth they have yet to find. I want to give them God. All I can do is present my ideas, the Church’s ideas, and lead them in creative ways to a relationship with God.

In the middle of it all I cannot help but love them. I will miss seeing them sitting in those desks, questioning everything, and being who they are. However, I am so excited that they will go out into the world and bring with them a better understanding, a passion to serve, and hopefully a deeper faith life.
