Mary, pure and without sin, said Yes to God’s request for her to be the vessel for the messiah. Mary carried Jesus Christ into this world. Not only did she carry him into this world, she must have nurtured and raised him with love and tenderness. Although he was God he was also human and had to learn love as a only a human could. Our first teacher of love is our mother. There are few accounts of Mary’s undying love in the scriptures, there are few passages of her speaking in the Gospels. Part of the reason for this lack of Mary was most likely the writers of the time. It was not a “woman’s world” women were seen as lower than dirt, that took a long time to change and in many places in our world it still remains a reality. The true reality is that a woman, Mary, was chosen to carry God into this world. God could have chosen to just be without parents, without birth, but God chose a woman, Mary. God chose Mary to love Jesus first so Jesus would understand love from his conception onward.

There are multiple religions that think Catholics worship Mary. We do not worship Mary we appreciate and realize how important and essential her role was and still is in the completion of the coming of the messiah. Mary carried salvation into this world, loved him, raised him, and readied him for his mission. Mary should be hailed and called blessed forever. Thanks be to God for Mary!
