Never Hate, June 14, 2016 Daily Reflection

Sunset at the smokies

My heart and prayers go out to the families and victims of the vicious hate crime and slaughter of lives in Orlando, Florida. Many people are posting various reactions to this tragedy. I want to say Jesus Christ hated NO ONE. God the creator and father is love. Jesus Christ came to this earth for everyone. Jesus walked among the marginalized and loved all people. I teach my students on the first day of my Theology class that Catholics do not hate homosexuals. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:

  • Homosexual orientation is NOT sinful because it is not chosen-
  • Homosexuals must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity
  • **Every sign of unjust discrimination should be avoided

I explain to my students if they walk out of my door saying that Catholics hate homosexuals they are wrong because it is not true. Yes, sex outside of marriage is a sin and they can’t get married in the church so it is a catch 22. However, they could be chaste and live a single life. Regardless Catholics do not hate homosexuals.

I can’t imagine a religion of any sort actually teaching people to hate others. Jesus Christ did not hate, God does not hate, we should not hate. It all comes back to love. We were created by love, to love, for love not hate. Today, love one another for that is what God requests of each of us.
