Pray for your enemies, February 19, 2017 Sunday Tidbit

“You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.”
Matthew 5:33

Love your enemies, most of my students consider this idea to be foreign and fruitless. Why would anyone love someone who hates them? I explained to them how important it is to pray for your enemies and that it will help you both in the long run. When I told them we need to pray for members of ISIS, I thought they were going to yell at me. We need to pray that they have conversions of heart. Jesus is so right, how difficult is it to love someone who loves you? It is dreadfully difficult to love someone who hates you.

Today, consider your enemies, or those you do not care for in life. Start by praying for that individual. Then consider saying something nice to him/her. Each week think about another good thing you could do for the good of that person and watch how everything will change.
