Do you prefer the darkness? July 25, 2016 Daily Reflection

2009-10-11 15.22.01“And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.”

John 3:19-20

Father Robert Barron often refers to this idea as a dirty windshield. When there is no light shining through the windshield the driver can see just fine. However, if there is a light, like the sun, shining through the windshield every spot, smudge, and imperfection is so visible it is difficult to see ahead. We prefer the darkness so that we won’t have to see our sins, shortcomings, and imperfections. Then we can just keep driving the car of our lives without regret or a need for change. Those who allow the light to shine through, face the shortcomings, imperfections, and repent for the sins in an effort to truly change, will see all the blemishes of our life and soul. If we never have self-reflection or an objective reflection of our lives are we really living or just existing without a yearning for growth, understanding, or eventually clarity.

Are you hiding in the dark, not wanting to face your issues? Are you blinded by the light attempting to change and be better for God? Either place you are please pray and bring yourself closer to God.
