Refreshing Waters, November 6 Daily Reflection

Refreshing, cleansing, cool, smooth, wet and pure.  Water.  Pouring down you freeing, soothing and peaceful.  Underneath it;  silence, weightlessness and peace.  Running in it misting upon your face, splashing about your shoes cooling relief.  Soaking in it warming and relaxing your muscles.  Nintey eight percent of our bodies are made up by it.  Water.

Do you love to go to the lake and sit on the dock to watch the sunrise above the motionless, glass like lake?  Do you remember your toes in the sand, waves rushing up to wash them off on the beach?  Can you still feel the spray from the waterfall you once hiked to years ago?  Water.  Relaxing, soothing, peaceful and beautiful.

What is it about water that we need so much?  Is it the fact that without it we will die so we have an instinctive need for it that attracts us physically to it?  Is it the soothing sounds of the water that we have in our subconscious memories from being in utero as a fetus when we literally breathed it and were protected inside of it?  Is it because it is pure, natural and from the hands of God?

“I will sprinkle clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.  I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts.”

Ezekiel 36: 25-27

Many places in the bible water is referred to as cleansing and purifying.  That is why it is used in Baptism.  Jesus was baptised by John in the Jordan river with water.

Maybe we all long to be cleansed of our dirt, our heat our sins and wrong doings.  Within the flowing water we find that it washes all the dirt and sins away.  It is a fresh start a new beginning.  That is what water does for us;  cleanes, cools, refreshes and sustains us.
