Transfiguration, August 6, 2017 Sunday Tidbit

A Different perspective

This weekend’s gospel is about the transfiguration of Jesus Christ. In that moment, Jesus revealed himself to his apostles. In his amazing white light, they could also see Elijah and Moses. The apostles wanted to pitch a tent on that mountain and stay. They wanted to stay in the light of God and knowing the beauty of love. What they had to do was come back down the mountain to reality to live in our world and do the work of Christ.

We are able to have those mountain top experiences on retreats, through the Eucharist, during inspirational talks, and touching prayers. We are supposed to take those moments with us to transfigure us in our normal life at the bottom of the mountain. That doesn’t mean we “unsee” God and his beauty. It means we learn from it and allow it to motivate our lives to love others more fully. Today, transfigure your life by letting God’s love come from your thoughts, attitude, words, and actions.
