Genesis 1: 16-19

God made the two great lights, the greater one to govern the day, and the lesser one to govern the night; and he made the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to shed light upon the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed-the fourth day.

Everyone that knows me realizes how much I love sunsets. My favorite color is the sky after the sun has gone down, the oranges, pinks and pale purple colors all mixed up in the great sky. Anyone who has ever run with me knows how I adore watching the sunrise. Morning is wonderful it is a new beginning for each one of us. Whatever happened yesterday is gone and now we get to start fresh again. When was the last time you watched a sunrise? When was the last time you took the time to sit and watch the sunset? Have you ever shared that part of nature with your child? My children color and paint pictures for me, what child doesn’t do that for his/her mom? They love to color the sunset for me and pictures of nature, those pictures are so special to me because they are trying to please me with what I love the best, unaware that I love them more than anything they could ever paint. (The picture I have posted Spencer my 6 year old painted for me yesterday).

Have you ever watched the stars come out with your child? Summer is the perfect time to experience nature with your child. Our children want to see through our eyes. Tonight set aside a little bit of time maybe 30 minutes to watch the sunset with your child. In Louisville Ky it will set at 9:05 pm tonight. Look at the colors in the sky. Watch the fireflies come out and actually run around like you did when you were a child and catch a few with your child. If you can do it watch the stars come out with your child. Your probably thinking but I have to get him/her to bed that’s just too late. Is it really too late to share a time with him/her that could make a memory forever with your child? It’s summer time, give your child the gift of wonder and experience it with him/her. You will make a memory that will last your lifetime. There will come a time when your child is too old to want to do these things with you, do it now while he/she still wants to be with you.

God created all the nature we witness on a daily basis. How often do we just think that sunrise is getting in our eyes and we need to look away from it. How often do we listen to the birds or do we think listen to that noise! Nature is one of the most calming elements of this world. Nature is a direct connection to God. Tonight or this evening take the time to make that connection with your child. Tell he/she that God made it all for him/her to appreciate and have a little fun playing in the yard catching fireflies and watching the colors and being thankful that you have that child to teach and to love. Enjoy!
