My Pelican, January 24, 2013 Daily Reflection

A pelican upon a pier in San Diego CA

I spotted the pelican perched upon this old weathered wall on a pier in San Diego, CA. He seemed to sit there in anticipation, waiting and watching the calm waters of the ocean.  He was only there for a moment. I snapped the picture and off he flew. Maybe I scared him, or perhaps he spotted his lunch below. He allowed me to freeze this moment in time with a photograph. Now, three years later I am pondering the thoughts of a pelican upon a pier.

Our worries and anxiety about the future are sometimes overwhelming. We wonder how we will pay the next big bill. Where will we find the money to send our children to private school or college? How on earth will we be financially secure enough to ever retire? The more we question, the greater our anxiety grows. As we become obsessed with this thought process we forget that God will provide for our needs. We are so into our stress that we do not take the time to wait a bit and to free some time for prayer and God’s guidance. He answers these questions in Matthew 6: 25-27, 33-34:

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I am aware of how difficult it is for us to believe this passage but that is what faith is all about. We believe without seeing or understanding. When you are overwhelmed and stressed out picture my pelican perched upon his pier, with no job, money, home or grocery store. Yet, God provides for him every day of his life. Don’t you think God loves you just as much as that pelican? Have faith my friends and talk to God and give Him your worries and He will provide. Have Faith!
