“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
Thinking back on my life, I always knew that God was with me. I remember being so upset with my mom, I was only 5 years old, I tore apart my bed covers and bit my pillow, because she wanted me to take a nap. I was so angry but I remember thinking God was still with me. I remember feeling left out but thinking I was not alone because God was with me. I remember walking through the woods in the winter snow and feeling like God was walking with me. I honestly cannot think of a time in my life that I felt completely separated from God. There was a 6 month period that I was so angry with God that I stopped talking to him and tried to deny his existence. Even at that time I felt I could not get him to leave me completely. I of course asked for forgiveness and accepted his love once more.
As a mom, I have taught my children from birth through their current ages that God is with them at all times. I would rock them to sleep singing “Be Not Afraid…I go before you always”. I took them to church every Sunday, prayed at dinner, and prayed out loud every night (we still do all of this). I have told them from a very young age that God is always present. I think they have a keen awareness of God’s presence in their lives. They know God is right there with them and that they are never alone. I taught them this because I believe it and want to pass on the faith to them. I also taught them this so that no matter what horrible situation they are cast into they never feel alone. God forbid a tragedy occur in their lives they will know that God is with them through it all.
I often say, whether you believe it or not God is with you. Whether you claim God as your creator, father, or friend, God is still your creator, father, and friend (even if it is one sided). You don’t have to believe in God like some mythical being to conjure him up, nope, God is there regardless of your beliefs or unbelief. So, regardless of your ideas “You are never alone”.
