The Dinner Table, January 29 Daily Reflection

Our Dinner Table

Our Dinner Table

“Dinner Time!” The words echo off the walls and down the halls to where the children are scattered throughout the house. Thud, thump, scurrying, and running up steps from the basement and down the wooden steps from their bedrooms our 4 children descend to their seats.

“What’s for dinner?”

“Can I have a bite, just one pleassse?”

“Not until  after we pray.”

We all fold our hands and say grace then we go around the table and each person prays for a specific need in their life or for others. We eat together without TV; we don’t answer the phone, emails or texts. We just sit together and talk about our day. Each child gets a turn to tell their stories while everyone listens!

When was the last time you had dinner with your family? Not just grabbing McDonald’s at the drive thru and inhaling the food in the car? Believe me I know how difficult it is to plan meals around work schedules, homework, sports practices, meetings and gym time.  The key is to plan it in advance.

People have forgotten the value of sitting at home and relaxing together as a family. People have forgotten because we don’t have time anymore!  We need to make the time for the important parts of our lives. What is more important than knowing your children? What is more important than enjoying your time together as a family?

Plan it, even if it is only 1 night a week that you can make it work. Make it work you don’t have to serve gourmet food, just a dinner together at home. It is worth the time and effort! Try it!
