The day after Christmas. So many people are tired of their decorations, trees and lights that they are ready to pack it all up and put it away. Christmas Day was the end of the “secular or commercial” Christmas. As of today everything is half off! Not if you are a Christian! If you are a Christian you realize that this is the beginning of the celebration of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, God in flesh born into the world.
I checked the official United States Conference of the Council of Bishops usccb.org site and found that Christmas starts on Christmas Eve and ends with the Baptism of Jesus Christ, which is actually after the Epiphany. We have 16 days of Christmas time. These are the days that we should celebrate the birth of Jesus. It’s not over it’s just begun. Now, is the time to celebrate, appreciate, and spend time in prayer and in service to others. You can put away your Elf on the Shelf, and Santa decorations but don’t take down your tree, angels, or nativity. Enjoy your Christmas Time!
So true, but this year is unusual with Christmas falling on Sunday. The Baptism of the Lord usually is the Sunday after Epiphany but this year is going to be celebrated the Monday after Epiphany, January 9th…that should make a great opportunity for many Religion/Theology teachers!
Amen! Today as the 2nd day of Christmas our true love, God, gave to us, two turtle doves, the old & the new testaments. In celebration of this gift, perhaps we could dust off our bibles and read our favorite verses from the old and new testaments. Merry Christmas to all!
